Our Story

My name is Poppy, and I am the founder of Coastal Jewellery, an independent design studio located in the charming seaside town of Arbroath, Scotland.

Our Roots

Coastal Jewellery is a heartfelt tribute to my creative beginnings and my hometown of Arbroath, Scotland, where I grew up and continue to live. Founded in late 2019, Coastal Jewellery emerged from my passion for collecting ‘sea diamonds’ from our local beaches. This, combined with a lifelong fascination with sculpture and jewellery, led me to create unique pieces using wire, semi-precious stones, and these cherished sea diamonds. Initially showcased on a modest Instagram page, the growing interest soon transformed into a thriving business.

During the first lockdown of 2020, I dedicated myself to refining my craft and investing in the business, establishing Coastal Jewellery as a successful silversmithing enterprise. Our offerings have since expanded, from crafting illustrations with locally sourced seaglass to designing exquisite sterling silver rings featuring rare Australian Opals from Lightning Ridge and semi precious stones.

Today, Coastal Jewellery proudly embraces its role in the Scottish Creative Industry and has recently ventured into bespoke memorial jewellery. We now provide a compassionate and personalised service for those looking to honour a loved one or celebrate significant life moments, ensuring that every piece tells a unique and meaningful story.

Our Inspiration

From a young age, I’ve been captivated by small treasures - trinkets and jewellery - each holding deep sentimental value. I delighted in exploring my mother’s jewellery box, discovering ornate pieces passed down through generations. This fascination with meaningful objects inspires me to create jewellery that evokes the same sense of nostalgia and personal significance for my customers.

While our name reflects our coastal origins, our designs draw inspiration from a broad spectrum of sources: renowned architecture, houseplants, honeybees, seashells, Basquiat’s art, traditional tattoos, and the ancient standing stones of Stenness and the Cairngorms. We remain committed to using high-quality materials, prioritising local sourcing when possible, and maintaining sustainability in our creative practices.

A core aspect of our work is our bespoke service, where we are continually inspired by our clients' stories and requests. Each custom piece is a unique challenge, and once completed, we eagerly return to our sketchbooks, fueled by the creative energy of our latest commissions, ready to dream up the next creation.
